As sailing yacht projects have become more and more ambitious and of higher performance, the loads on the steering system have naturally increased. This has resulted in greater loads and less ‘feel’ in the steering system. These helm loads are further increased by the size of the autopilot rams fitted to match the increased rudder loads of this new class of yacht.
To overcome these problems, JP3 has designed and developed a system that allows the autopilot steering rams to be connected and disconnected from the steering. Each unit is custom made to architects specifications to ensure both the quadrant radius and autopilot geometry are the optimum to ensure perfect steering.

Irrespective of the size of your boat or the size of the rudder fitted to your boat your rudder stock will deflect as a result of the water pressure on the rudder blade and the loads acting on it.
With a simple plain rudder bearing this results in increased friction in the bearings. At best these increased loads result in more load on the helm detracting from the pleasure of steering a sailing a yacht by hand. At worst these friction loads can get so high the steering can lock.
For this reason JP3 only manufactures rudder bearings that are self aligning. The ability for our bearings to align with the rudderstock as it deflects reduces the friction in the system, which we believe is essential for good safe steering.

FBS combines hydraulic and software to offer an ajustable Feed Back Sensation in the steering wheel.
√ Load applied on the wheel is directly proportional to the rudder load
√ According to wind direction and strength the FBS can be tuned through various modes to accommodate conditons and helmsman desire.

√ Each mode defines 3 parameters : wheel turns, tiller angle, FBS torque.

√ Safety parameters are defined to prevent over loads on the wheel.
√ Compatible with autopilot, FBS will automaticaly desengage when pilot is switched on.
√ Can be connected through the internet for diagnostics and maintenance.
